Plan Guides Strategic, Inclusive, and Distinctive Land Use, Growth, and Development
The City of Oregon, Ohio, is preparing for its next chapter – shaped by strategic growth, renewed identity, and a shared community vision. In 2024, the City engaged OHM Advisors to lead the development of a new Comprehensive Plan to guide land use, growth and development, and capital projects over the next decade.
The planning process centers around an extensive community engagement strategy that crosses physical and cultural divides in the community. This inclusive effort brings together residents, business owners, and civic leaders through a wide range of engagement opportunities meant to ensure that the community’s diverse voices, needs, and aspirations are reflected in a shared vision for the future.
The plan strategically positions Oregon for sustainable economic growth by identifying targeted areas for future industrial and technology-based development, thereby laying the groundwork for innovation and job creation. It also prioritizes the revitalization of aging commercial corridors, with recommendations for updated zoning, infrastructure improvements, and placemaking strategies to transform these areas into modern, walkable, and economically vibrant destinations.
Beyond land use, the plan explores ways to strengthen Oregon’s identity and sense of place. Through targeted capital projects and community branding strategies, the plan offers a framework to enhance the City's visual character, celebrate its assets, and create a more unified image.
Now in its early implementation phase, the plan will serve as a living guide for City officials, developers, and community members. To sustain progress, the plan recommends annual reviews to maintain momentum, accountability, and adapt to emerging needs and opportunities.
