Urban Design

Creating Better Places for People

Our approach is simple: we focus on enhancing your community through high-quality urban design. We incorporate innovation initiatives that build on the character and positive qualities inherent to each place we design.

It is with a broad perspective – strengthened by the daily collaboration amongst our expert team of urban designers, landscape architects, engineers and architects – that we create solutions that aren’t just better. They’re better because they’re the result of a multidisciplinary team with holistic expertise across both the public and private development sectors. A savvy team who knows how to get the project through development review and permit processes, while building a groundswell of community support through interactive meetings and online engagement.

The urban design and landscape architecture team here at OHM Advisors is committed to building lasting, livable communities, with an enduring emphasis on social sustainability. We see each project as an opportunity to partner, dream big and evoke the poetry of your community.

We work with communities large and small within the full breadth of design work from park master plans to civic spaces to streetscapes to mixed-use developments. But we specifically enjoy applying the principles of landscape urbanism to city-building, site design and community building. We thrive on exploring new methods and materials, forging new relationships and ultimately creating places that people remember.

Project Spotlight

Central Park | Green, OH

The concept for Central Park in Green, OH stemmed from the Vision Plan and Massillon Road Corridor Plan, both conducted by OHM Advisors. This 8-acre community park was designed to create a cultural hub for the community and fulfill a need for quality public space within the City. Through extensive collaboration with a City-led steering committee and input from public engagement, consensus rocketed amongst the community.

The new park, opened in July, 2016, is a signature community destination offering abundant amenities for residents and visitors to enjoy, including:
  • Market Place Pavilion for farmers’ markets, gatherings and event rental space
  • Nearly 5,000 lineal feet of new trails
  • Amphitheater – with occupancy for 500 – for concerts, plays, movies and community events
  • Splash pad with multiple play zones, and outdoor dry playground area
  • Seasonal ice skating rink
  • Parking lot with rain gardens and a bioretention island to reduce runoff and aid in stormwater management
  • And, of course, ample parking – along with centrally-located drop-off and pick-up points
"OHM Advisors displayed great vision and expertise, embracing the landscape with a creative, beautiful, undulating design. The magnificent design adds tremendous value to the treasure that is Central Park. It will be a destination for families, young and old, for many years to come."

Tony Slanec, Director of Central Ohio

As an esteemed urban designer, Tony believes that design is a participatory process which brings citizens, economists, engineers, architects, developers, policy makers, government officials, and builders together to create humane and appropriate designs that are sustainable.

By working at many scales, he leads a team that weaves the design of individual buildings; the public spaces they help create; the neighborhoods, towns, and cities of which they are a part; and the regional culture they celebrate into a vital urban tapestry. His commitment to the community visioning process and sustainable development is the cornerstone of his personal and professional goals which translates to an intense interest in the built environment.
