Droze Wins Back-to-Back ASCE Awards

May 14, 2012 – Patrick Droze is an avid Tigers fan, a woodworking enthusiast, and a project engineer in our municipal engineering department. On May 10, the Michigan American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) gave Pat an award and another title: 2012 Michigan Young Civil Engineer of the Year. But that’s not all – Pat also won the same award from the ASCE Southeastern Michigan Branch, presented to him May 5.

The awards, given annually, recognize engineers under the age of 35 for significant achievement based on professional contributions and service to the community.

Pat’s relationship with OHM Advisors goes back to his senior year of high school when he began a five-year internship. Since then, he’s worked on everything from complex reconstruction jobs to community grant assistance. He has worked in the capacity of a design engineer and project engineer on various roadway improvements ranging from rehabilitation to full replacements and geometric improvements of concrete and asphalt roads. He has also designed water main improvements employing the use of both conventional open-cut construction as well as trenchless technologies. In addition, Patrick has completed many planning and hydraulic studies and designs for storm water management system improvement projects in Michigan and Ohio.

Of his accomplishment, OHM Advisors’ Municipal Engineering Director Kent Early says, “Pat’s been a part of OHM for a long time, and it’s been a pleasure to watch him become the talented professional he is today. He’s a bright, dedicated engineer with limitless potential. We think this award is well deserved.”

Pat is professionally and personally motivated by the desire to make a difference his community. He has been a member of Transportation Riders United (TRU) since 2007 and recently served as their Vice President. TRU is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving transportation access and mobility in Greater Detroit in order to restore urban vitality, ensure transportation equity, and improve quality of life. He also is a regular volunteer at community improvements programs, such as Romulus Clean Sweep, Ypsilanti Pride Day, and MDOT’s Adopt-a-Highway.

He is passionate about urban revival and promoting awareness of both Detroit’s past and current building achievements. He volunteers time on Saturday mornings as a tour guide with Preservation Detroit, Detroit’s oldest and largest architectural preservation organization, leading walking tours through historic downtown Detroit. He is enthusiastic about the history and heritage of the City of Detroit and enjoys sharing his excitement for the built environment.

Pat is an active member of the Southeast Michigan Branch of ASCE and previously served as Secretary and Web Development Committee Chair to the Committee on Younger Members. He has participated in a variety of ASCE events including Student Night, Adopt-A-Road, and Habitat for Humanity.
