Real-time Nutrient Monitoring System and Data Analysis Platform Offers New Insight to Stream Dynamics
Karlin Danilsen, Ph.D., and Nathan Zgnilec, engineers in our Environmental Water Resources Group, will share lessons learned from winning the 2017 Internet of H2O Challenge, a competition aimed at solving the challenge of monitoring Lake Erie’s phosphorus levels, which contribute to the overgrowth of harmful algal blooms (HABs) and pose a significant threat to water quality.
The win resulted in the innovative development of an affordable, autonomous, real-time nutrient analysis system to monitor soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP), and Nitrate and Nitrite. Nathan and Karlin will share the many applications this robust system offers – integrating new insight into stream dynamics and the performance of best management practices.
